How it works

1

Allow the microphone

Press Start recording and click Allow in the browser prompt. The live waveform will start dancing as you speak — that's your proof the mic is live.

2

Record, pause, resume

Speak naturally. Hit Pause any time to collect your thoughts, then Resume — everything stays in one tidy file.

3

Play back & download

Press Stop to finish. Listen instantly, then download the take as WebM (small file) or WAV (lossless, editor-friendly).

Who is this voice recorder for?

  • Voice memos & quick notes — capture ideas, reminders and to-do lists the moment they strike, without installing any app.
  • Quran recitation & naat practice — record your tilawat or hamd and listen back to improve tajweed and tone. A favourite among our readers.
  • Language learning — record your pronunciation in English, German, French or Urdu and compare it with native speakers.
  • Interviews & lectures — record a conversation or a class for your notes, then download it for safekeeping.
  • Podcast & video drafts — test your microphone, rehearse an intro or record a rough voiceover before the real take.
  • Singing practice — record yourself and hear honestly how you sound, then try again.

Tips for better voice recordings

  • Get close to the mic — about 15–20 cm away, slightly off to the side. This tames harsh "p" and "b" pops.
  • Pick a quiet room — close windows, switch off fans, and avoid bare echoey walls. A room with curtains or a wardrobe nearby sounds warmer.
  • Watch the waveform — if the bars constantly slam against the top, you're clipping. Move a little further from the mic or lower your system input volume.
  • Use a headset if you have one — even cheap wired earbuds with a built-in mic beat most laptop microphones.
  • Record a 5-second test first — play it back, check the level, then do the real take.
File-size rule of thumb: the native WebM download uses about 1 MB per 2 minutes of speech, while the WAV version is roughly 10× larger (about 5 MB per minute at 44.1 kHz). Pick WebM for sharing, WAV for editing.

Frequently asked questions

Is this online voice recorder really free?

Yes — completely free, with no account, no time limit and no watermark. Record as many takes as you like, play them back and download them. Nothing to buy or unlock.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. The recorder runs entirely in your browser using its built-in recording capability. Press Start recording, allow microphone access once, and speak — on desktop or mobile.

Where are my recordings stored?

Only on your own device. Capture and playback happen locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded to any server. Close the tab without downloading and the recording is gone — so save takes you want to keep.

What format does the download use?

Two choices: the browser's native format (WebM with Opus audio in Chrome/Edge/Firefox, MP4/M4A in Safari) for small files, or a lossless 16-bit WAV conversion that opens in any audio editor.

Why does it say microphone permission was denied?

Your browser blocked microphone access. Click the microphone or padlock icon in the address bar, allow the microphone for this site, then press Start recording again. On phones, enable the microphone in your browser's site settings.

Can I pause and continue in the same file?

Yes — Pause and Resume keep everything in one continuous file, so a cough, a pause for thought or a re-read line won't force you to start over.
