Why these dates are worth trusting
Holiday lists are only useful if every single date is right — one wrong Friday and your flight booking, hotel or leave request falls apart. So instead of copying another website's table, we rebuilt the 2027 list from scratch and checked the weekday of every holiday with an actual calendar. A few things that caught our eye along the way:
- Easter 2027 is in March, not April. Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027 (by computus, the church's traditional calculation), which puts Good Friday on 26 March and Easter Monday on 29 March. Some older holiday lists floating around the web still show Easter dates in early April — those do not line up with the real 2027 weekdays, so always verify before you book.
- Christmas 2027 lands on a weekend (Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 December), which is exactly why the UK shifts its bank holidays to Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December — and why Christmas-week leave is such a bargain this year (see the long-weekend tricks below).
- May 2027 is stacked. Labour Day, Ascension, Victory Day, Whit Monday, Constitution Day and Corpus Christi all land in May across different countries — it is the single best month for bridge-day planning.

Long-weekend tricks: turn a few leave days into long breaks
The real game of holiday planning is not the holidays themselves — it is the bridge days between them. We ran the numbers on the 2027 calendar so you do not have to. Every trick below is calculated from the tables above.
🇩🇪 Germany — 1 leave day = 4-day May weekend
Ascension Day falls on Thursday 6 May. Book Friday 7 May as leave and you get Thursday 6 → Sunday 9 May — four days off for the price of one. Bonus: Good Friday (26 Mar) + Easter Monday (29 Mar) already give you a free four-day Easter weekend with zero leave days.
🇫🇷 France — 2 leave days = 2 long weekends
France gets two perfect bridge Fridays in 2027. Friday 7 May sits between Ascension Day (Thursday 6 May) and the weekend → 4 days. Friday 12 November sits between Armistice Day (Thursday 11 November) and the weekend → 4 days. Two days of leave, eight days of break — the French pont at its finest.
🇪🇸 Spain — 1 leave day = 5-day December stretch
December is Spain's gift: Constitution Day is Monday 6 December and Immaculate Conception is Wednesday 8 December. Take Tuesday 7 December as your single leave day and you unlock a five-day run — Sunday 5 through Thursday 9 December — around the Christmas markets season.
🇮🇹 Italy — 2 leave days = 5-day June escape
Republic Day falls on Wednesday 2 June. Book Monday 31 May + Tuesday 1 June and you get Saturday 29 May → Wednesday 2 June: five days for two leave days, right at the start of the beach season. Same trick works in December: Immaculate Conception is Wednesday 8 December, so Monday 6 + Tuesday 7 December off gives you Saturday 4 → Wednesday 8 December.
🇳🇱 Netherlands — 1 leave day = 5 days in May
The Dutch May jackpot: Liberation Day is Wednesday 5 May and Ascension Day is Thursday 6 May. Book just Friday 7 May and you stretch it into five days off, Wednesday 5 → Sunday 9 May. And for King's Day (Tuesday 27 April), take Monday 26 April → four days, Saturday 24 → Tuesday 27 April, orange outfit mandatory.
🇬🇧 UK — 3 leave days = 9 days at Christmas
Because Christmas falls on Saturday/Sunday, the bank holidays shift to Monday 27 + Tuesday 28 December. Book Wednesday 29, Thursday 30 and Friday 31 December and you are off from Saturday 25 December all the way to Sunday 2 January — nine days for three days of leave. Easter is free too: Good Friday 26 March + Easter Monday 29 March = a four-day weekend with no leave spent.
🇵🇱 Poland — 2 leave days = 2 long weekends
Corpus Christi lands on Thursday 27 May — bridge Friday 28 May for four days (27–30 May). Independence Day is Thursday 11 November — bridge Friday 12 November for another four days (11–14 November). Two leave days, two long weekends, both in gorgeous shoulder-season weather.
🇸🇪 Sweden — watch the Saturday trap
2027 is a tough year for Swedish holidays: Midsummer (26 June), All Saints' Day (6 November), May Day and both Christmas days all land on weekends, so they buy you nothing extra. The one clean win: Ascension Day is Thursday 6 May — bridge Friday 7 May for a four-day weekend (6–9 May). For Christmas, book Monday 27 → Wednesday 29 December and you get Saturday 25 → Wednesday 29 December off.
Regional differences you should know
National lists are only half the story in federal countries. Before you lock in leave, check these:
- 🇩🇪 Germany: the 16 Bundesländer each add their own days. Epiphany (6 January) is a holiday in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt; Reformation Day (31 October) is observed in the east and north; All Saints' Day (1 November) applies in the Catholic south and west. Munich and Berlin do not share the same calendar.
- 🇪🇸 Spain: each autonomous community adds 2–4 regional holidays — Catalonia's Diada (11 September), Andalusia Day (28 February), Madrid's San Isidro (15 May). If you live in Spain, your real total is closer to 14 days, not 10.
- 🇬🇧 UK: Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own lists. Scotland does not take Easter Monday as a bank holiday but adds St Andrew's Day (30 November); Northern Ireland adds St Patrick's Day (17 March) and the Battle of the Boyne (12 July).
- 🇫🇷 France: Alsace-Moselle (Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Moselle) additionally observes Good Friday and St Stephen's Day (26 December) — a historical leftover that still stands.
- 🇮🇹 Italy: every city celebrates its patron saint — Rome (29 June), Milan (7 December), Naples (19 September). If your office is local, that day is yours.

Are these 2027 public holiday dates final?
Yes — national public holidays are fixed by law and do not move. Every date on this page was cross-checked against the real 2027 calendar, including the weekday of each holiday. Regional extras (German states, Spanish autonomous communities) can be confirmed later in the year, but the national lists here are settled.
Do regions and states have different holidays?
Yes. Germany's 16 states add their own holidays — Epiphany, Reformation Day and All Saints' Day are observed only in some states. Spain's autonomous communities add 2–4 regional holidays on top of the national list. Scotland and Northern Ireland also differ from the England & Wales bank holidays shown here, so check your local list if you live outside England.
What is a bridge day (Brückentag / pont)?
A bridge day is a normal working day sandwiched between a public holiday and a weekend — for example, Friday 7 May 2027 between Ascension Day (Thursday 6 May) and the weekend. Taking it as leave "bridges" the gap and turns the holiday into a four-day weekend. Germans call it a Brückentag; the French call it faire le pont.
